Located on the shores of magnificent Lake Pend Oreille, and set against the dramatic backdrop of three Rocky Mountains frontal ranges plus Schweitzer Mountain ski resort, Sandpoint is a lively town of about 7,200 people.
So who says Sandpoint is the most beautiful town in America? Don’t take our word for it! Sandpoint was awarded that distinction by USA Today and Rand McNally, which sent teams of judges out across the nation for its "Best of the Road" competition. Sandpoint was named "most beautiful," joining four other small towns judged best for food, most fun, most patriotic and friendliest.

More about Sandpoint
First settled in the late 1800s and incorporated in 1901, Sandpoint was built on a rich heritage of mining, railroad and timber industries. In the 1950s it gained renown for its trophy rainbow trout fishery, and in the 1960s became a ski paradise with the launch of skiing at Schweitzer Mountain. In the 1970s came an influx of artists and musicians, creating an ongoing legacy of arts and cultural events.
